Which has more impact on your life and your business…credentials or credibility?

It’s an important question.

Let’s start with credentials.

How much do you believe your credentials determine your success?  Do you think nobody will trust your guidance if you don’t have a coaching certificate from Coach U?

What has traditional higher or trade education done for you lately?

I studied massage therapy for a full year.  Now this is something that I enjoyed because it helped me hone my natural talents…but get this…out of almost 1,200 contact hours of education, only 6 covered how to run a business.  And the school administrator who taught it had only been a part-time practicing massage therapist for a couple years before she started working at the school.

Think about how many of your college professors or trade school instructors were basically failed practitioners in the field.

They have credentials of being in the right field and having whatever “right” experience The Field deems appropriate, but are they real-world qualified?

But you, in contrast, are wise when you develop a system that helps people solve their problems.  You are on the road to prosperity when you take your experience - your failures and trials and tribulations that led you to FINALLY figure something out - and create products and services that fill a gap in the marketplace.  You are on the road to wealth when you demonstrate that you can do it in the real world.

My friend and colleague Ben Mack recently shared why he left a PhD program:

“There is a world of difference between

entrepreneurial education and academic

education. Last december I withdrew from

a P.hD. program at RPI, a top-10 polytechnic

where I was studying “new media rhetorical

analysis.” That’s a fancy-pants way to say

online persuasion.”

Why did he withdraw? Because the teachers were on the outside looking in at online persuasion, but they were not demonstrating effectiveness.

Ben goes on to write, “I say, “If you know online persuasion so well…show me you can do it.” *They mocked me for my success, saying I wasn’t doing academic research, I was merely getting results.*

“Merely”getting results.  Isn’t that what we all want — RESULTS?  Well, results don’t come with a graduation certificate, my friend.

results come from live demonstrations of how your knowledge, your system, and how you being truly and totally YOU changes lives.

Ben Mack does it his way.  I do it mine.  You do it yours, but you need to arouse the Can Do inside of you and share with the world the system YOU used to solve the same problem you’re helping your target audience/customer/patient/client solve.

Notice I said you develop YOUR system.

Don’t stand in someone else’s light and brand Coach U or Passion Test or Bob Proctor or Tony Robbins and become a mouthpiece for someone else’s success.

Brand You.

Stand in your own glory.  Stand in the light of Who You Are and DEMONSTRATE by the power of your experience that you can lead people to answers.

Now THAT’s credibility, and THAT’S how you become successful — as a credible, effective, demonstrating problem solver.
