Understanding The Power of Dragons

So many stories in the world’s great mytholigies are about the hero venturing forth to slay a dragon. have you ever wondered why this is?
Do you think it is because there were once dragons?
Do you think it is because they represent a monster we don’t understand?
Do you think it’s a symbol for facing any enemy?
Consider this. Dragons, whether they ever existed or not, have a deeper meaning. They are not just dragons or monsters. Most people think that monsters are external, but the truth about facing the dragon is that what we are really doing is facing our own bad selves.
The outer journey of our lives has nothing to do with the external. it is truly about facing your fears. The trials and tribulations you face are the dragons of your life, but are dragons - are trials - the enemy?
if you understand the mythic structure of the hero’s journey as all humanity plays out the story every day, you understand that the true journey is within. The big secret about dragons is that what seems to be a horrible event in life can often open the door to our dreams.
There is a reason why in many stories dragons guard a treasure. It means they are the guardian of the gate between you and your treasure. Again, it isn’t about gold or other loot. It is about the treasure at the core of you.
What are your dragons? Can you think of a dragon that seemed to be the worst possible thing that could ever happen, but it turned out to be a blessing?
I certainly can. I moved out to Missouri in 2004. It seemed as if for once the stars all aligned in my favor to make the move possible. I had wanted to get out of the big city for a long time and to move closer to my family. Well, things went along reasonably well for a while but then, things changed, as they are wont to do.
I had trouble making enough income to pay the bills. Things felt bleak for a while as I faced this dragon. I had made a leap of faith and fallen into an abyss, but because I understand the nature of dragons, I knew that I had to look within and determine my next steps.
I love writing, and in the midst of my first year living in my new home, I started writing articles and stories again. My passion for words renewed and I pursued publication. While this brought in a little income, it was not enough to create a lifestyle.
One day in May of 2006 I was reading a writing magazine and got so mad about one of the articles. It was telling writers to get used to scraping for every dime. I am so sick of that “poor writer” mentality. I got so mad I threw the magazine and yelled out, “I will NOT be a broke writer!” I knew there must be a way to earn decent money with my writing. That is the day I found out about Glenn Dietzel and the Entrepreneurial Authoring program.
When I listened to the free seminar that night, I KNEW this was my answer but felt that familiar combination of excitement and fear. Should I take the risk on investing in my future? I had to say YES to an opportunity, and I did. I slayed the dragon of fear once again and made a bold move.
Before I had finished program, Glenn hired me as part of the team. Does that mean that life is easy now? Certainly not! As long as I’m alive, I will be on an inner journey reflected in external experiences. The road will continue to have challenges and brushes with disaster as well as allies, mentors, and interesting new settings.
All of life is a story. you are the hero of your own story. You move through various settings and live out a plot. You have allies and enemies. You face dragons on your road of trials. And if you truly awaken the hero within yourself, you have the opportunity to take the greatest journey of all and create huge value for people with what you do.
So are you willing to face your dragon head-on and face your inner self?

This post resonates with me probably more than anything else I’ve ever read in your blog, Ronda! So much changed for the better in my life when I first realized, then began working on my inner world.
Barring maybe, actual warfare combat, life is not about “them against me”. It’s about YOU against you! For that matter, even in combat, more so actually, it’s still about what you’re made of inside and how you access it, how you respond.
What an eye opener when you realize that you hold the key to making your life better; when you realize life only HAPPENS to you if you decide it to be so.
Every time you rise up after a disastrous blow, you are the stronger for it, the wiser. As you said, even the worst moments can be the gatekeepers to future riches, whatever form they may take.

I Love Dragons! I seem to seek them out. I collect them. I treasure them. I sell them to other dragon lovers.
I also love change. There’s something about the adventure of change, finding out how its going to work, how everyone involved will respond, and once the dust has settled, how to change again.
After reading your post, my excitement for dragons has increased, now wanting to find MORE dragons to conquer and turn into warriors for my success! Keep watch for my new efforts with Green Dragons, launching in 2008.
