It’s interesting to watch this NOTV show (net only television, as Mark Joyner calls it) and get something new out of each week’s episode.  What stood out to me is the concept of working from your strengths.

This week’s challenge had an artistic component .  Each group had to design a logo.

If I wre on a team, I would definitely be part of the concept and leave the drawing to someone more capable, because I can hardly draw a straight line wtith a rule.  I know this about myself and know enough to farm out any tasks that might involve making a poster.

Many people do not understand that you want to spend 80% of your time at least working from your areas of strength.   Sure, we all have to scrub a toilet or lick stamps now and again, but the most successful business people know what their strenghts are and spend most of their time doing these things.

I messed around WAY too long trying to design my own website.  Time is something I can never get back.  When I farmed out this task to Darrell Wingerak, the Web Wizard, what he did for my site was light years ahead of anything I ever could have accomplished.

I know of someone who is writing a book and building her business around it, and after a solid year, she still does not have a website because she is trying to play cheap.  The result:  she is not truly in business.

I wasted too much time on something I was never going to be able to master.  But now I know better!

The losing team in this week’s episode did an inferior job of simply laying out their graphic using posterboard and other art supplies.  Why?  The person who would have been the best choice for doing this task did not step up to the plate.

What about you?  Are you piddling around playing cheap and wasting time?  Is there something you should let a real pro do in 1/10 the time and 10 times as well?
