The importance of Mayonaise for Growing A Successful, Thriving Business

This post answers a challenge. Certainly I accepted! I can never resist.
John D. Hollingsworth, a wonderful improv-comedian and speaker who I am interviewing Thursday about becoming a fearless public speaker, posed a challenge for me.
Game on!
I lead a mastermind call tonight. One of the topics came from John. He wondered if I could make mayonaise a relevant topic to building a business.
“Yes, of course I can,” I told him.
So I posed the question to the group…”How is mayonaise critical to growing a thriving, successful business?”
Nobody had an answer. I added, mayo is most often used either on a sandwich or in a salad, like tuna salad or macaroni salad. Do you get the connection between this condiment and business?
No answer.
So I added, “Mayo is good, as long as you have just the right amount. To little and your food is dry, but too much and it’s disgusting and inedible. You don’t want to be drowning in mayo. Now do you get it? What connection do you see between business and mayo?”
One person talked about the importance of balance in your business.
“Yes,” I said, “I have a particular balance point in mind, but you are right.” We talked very briefly about balancing your time and your schedule so you don’t get overwhelmed, and being sure to have a life outside your business.
I reminded them, “But there is something perhaps even more powerful than balance. Any guesses?”
None.
“This is an important issue,” I told them. “In fact, AdSense guru Joel Comm, author of The AdSense Code, talked about it today on a webinar. He said that he is always keeping on top of the new trends and information so that he can keep growing his business.”
mayo is important to growing a successful, thriving business because because you do need to keep yourself up-to-date on the latest in internet marketing and your niche and so on, BUT you will never be successful in work or in life if you do not take ACTION with what you know.
Not enough new knowledge leaves y our business dry and unsavory. People will pass you by. But too much knowledge makes you soggy, and people will not want to experience what you have to offer.
So, put just the right amount of mayo — new knowledge — into your business and watch it grow.
So, John, olive to tell the tale. Do I pass mustard? Do you think you can ketchup with me, John? Or are you in one big pickle right now? Lettuce see.
I know, this is cheesy and I’m full of bologna.

Ha! Thanks for this mastermind topic, John, and for the resulting blog post.
