The Golden Hatchet of Compassion

I love this phrase, even though I didn’t come up with it.
Thank you, Chuck DeWolfe of BoomMoney.com, for this phrase and for your blog post.
One of the more difficult aspects of mentoring people is helping them get clarity on their business–and on themselves. In fact, some people get downright snotty or even nasty when I get them to focus clearly. I guess it’s threatening to have someone help you live your dream.
But there it is. The biggest challenge anyone faces is the one in his or her own mind. I call it the head game.
And the head game gets in the way more than anything.
Skills can be learned and mastered, but the head stuff, though it can be mastered as well, is the hardest.
Because facing your head game makes you look in the mirror, past the artifice…past the lies you tell yourself…past the empty wishes…past teh broken promises…to the YOU
that you truly are.
Ah…the Golden Hatchet of Compassion. It cuts through the crap and reveals the truth.
If you’re not too afraid to see it.
And if you don’t throw a fit.
This is how CHuck explained the hatchet to one of his students, as referenced in the blog post I referenced:
“I explained that he needed to clearly cut those aspects of his process that were preventing him from moving forward…your not communicating clearly with people and your wasting their time and your setting everyone including your self up for failure. Trust that what you know to be true to your self as it relates to who you are and your ideas and do it, ask for it, and tell it. What your doing has nothing to do with them it is your own crap that is getting in your way!”Get out of your own way is one of the main principles I teach people, because so often it is not a lack of skill that causes problems, but getting in your own way.
When you’re not clear, you’re getting in your own way. Really you are.
So thank you, Chuck, for giving me this wonderful metaphor for clarity. I’ll always give it proper attribution.
