How Do You Find Your Target Market? And Are You Leading with Your Face or Your Butt?

How are you going about starting your new business or big project or fundraising effort?  Are you starting with tactics and techniques?  Have you heard that you gotta do video or social marketing or list building?

Have you been taught that first you start by building a massive list of keywords? Analyse your market first then build your business? 

What if that was the wrong starting point?

What if by doing that you were at the starting blocks for a race that started somewhere else from where you were?  Well, that’s what you’re probably doing.

OK for my first mentor or anyone else who is saying that you must know your competition and know your market - I say YES of course you need to know these things.  And you need to be able to articulate exactly how you are different from all the rest.

But first I believe you must get cleear on who you are, what you are all about, and who you most want to have as clients or customers.  Then you can understand where to find your ideal customer - or “target market” as you’ll so often hear.

have you stopped to think things through first?  Things like:

What is my ultimate life purpose?

What do I love doing most in the world?

What do I stand for?

Who are the people I am best equipped to serve?

How do I intend to proceed with my business/project?

Who is in my circle of influence?

Most people get it all backwards and feel frustrated and pinched and and like your flow is being cut off.  That’s not the way things should be.

When you start from purpose and passion then find your hungry market and learn about your competitors, things flow much more easily and you won’t lose your Vision “TRYING TO figure out your target market.”
