A couple of days ago on one of our group mentoring calls , Nathan Mohr, one of our awesome team members with Glenn Dietzel’s VIP Executive Mentoring Program, said, “Lead with your dream.” It really touched me that day.  Not that he’s the only person to say such a thing, but it reminded me how powerful my own dream is in my life and how much I love helping other people live their dreams.

I had absolutely  nothing to do with Stephen Hawking living his dream, but he has been an inspiration to me for all of my life.  I’ve always been too stubborn to give in to pity or to whine because I don’t have “normal” vision.  My can-do attitude and perseverence are true assets, not only in my own personal life, but also in the work I do as an authoring coach adn business development mentor, and as an author.

Stephen Hawking may seem, if you look at appearance alone, to have “nothing to offer.”  He can’t move much or take care of himself, and he appears to have no control over anything in his life.  Again, I’m saying if you look at outward appearances.

Yet he triumphs over limitations every single day.  He uses a synthetic speech synthesizer  much like what I’m using right now to LISTEN to what I’m typing, but his allows him to speak.  He cannot use most of his body and controls his wheelchair using eyebrow movements.

Any time I even begin to think of whining  about anything, I think of what he faces daily.  And it’s not just his extraordinary way of doing the ordinary that impresses me.  It’s his contribution to science and to humanity.  He has chosen to lead with his dream and with his passion.

I feel such gratitude that even though my eyesight is very limited, I can still see some.  I put my face very close to the TV screen so I could truly watch hawking’s expression as he floated in 0 g.  Watching him flaat free of his limitations with a huge smile and that apple hovering nearby made me smile, laugh and cry.

Now, thanks to the help of technology, an entrepreneur and a millionnaire, his dream of being in space came a little closer.
