Seminar Survival Tips

I’ve learned a thing or two as i’ve traveled to seminars recently, and I’m putting together a package to share the best tips.

What have you learned as a result of traveling to seminars? Hre are a few of my best tips:

Tip #1 Always pack your cell phone charger in your carry-on. This is something I almost always do…in fact, until today I think I had a nearly clean record. But today, sleep deprived as I am, I tossed my charger into my luggage…

So the charger is sitting wherever my luggage is and I’m stranded because of a flight cancellation in a hotel with a few minutes of talk time available on my dying battery.

Tip #2 Carry clean underwear and toiletries with you even if you don’t think you’re likely to get strnaded. I just washed my socks in the sink, and other articles will follow once I’m done blogging.

Tip #3 Bring healthy snacks with you. I carryalmonds, protein bars, dried fruit and the like when I’m going to seminars.

Tip #4 Bring chocolate. You’ll want a bite or two in the afternoon.

Tip #5 Be dressed for a seminar, not a picnic. You will be treated better when you dress as if you’re there for business. Don’t decide that just because you work from home you shoul dress the same way you do to work at home.

Tip #6 - and many may not agree with me here, but I’m ok with being controvercial - Avoid drinking, or if you must drink, keep it to a single glass of wine or beer. This will keep you from saying or doing something you may later regret. Although I will say that tipplers tend to say very interesting things about people in their undustry.

That’s it for now. Add a comment and share some of your best seminar survival tips.

Wish I had been able to be with you this past weekend… Sure you really did learn much for those in attendance! Your tips are extremely valuable, speaking from experience, and I thank you for the reminder. So often when traveling for business & all is going along well, we forget the nightmare obstacles that come up unexpectedly. The only additional tip I’d add is to have reading material, doesn’t matter the form (Ipod, laptop, real book ;-) just that you have something to keep your mind going while you may be waiting. Hope you get some rest when you get home, Ronda

    Ronda,

I loved your travel tips and am delighted to add a couple of my own.

#1. Take only comfortable shoes! I always take several changes so that after long days on hotel floors I can take the pressure off my feet. It’s very hard to be dynamic and enthusiastic when your feet hurt. Soothing foot creams are great.

#2. “Comfortable hotel chair” is an oxymoron. Find ways to move and exercise while you are sitting. Make sure you stretch and take deep breaths while you are on break. Start your day with a trip to the health club.

    Enthusiastically, Rita Losee
