Ken McArthur’s Impact Online
December 13th, 2007 · Filed Under: Writing, publishing, and marketing · tell powerful stories
Ken McArthur’s book Impact is not even done yet, but you can see it listed at Amazon.com and at Target.com. I must say, it messed with my mind to see the page count, cover, and other information for a book that hasn’t reached the publisher yet.
His deadline with Career press is December 15, and only those of us who were on the live coaching call know whether or not he thinks he’ll make it.
I did the Entrepreneurial Analysis of his book, and I can tell you a few things that I shared with him. I’m not revealing any secrets, but I will share some considerations that YOU can use when you write your own nonfiction book.
* Transitions make a difference. A sentence or two can make the difference between the chapter falling over the cliff at the end OR making you breathlessly turn the page. (this is true in fiction as well, of course)
* Subheadings make the book easier to follow for your reader. They tell a little story as you read them through the chapter. They also provide chunking for the reader so that she can follow along and organize the material in her mind.
* A strong call to action makes your the end only the beginning. When you have a powerful call to action, the reader is excited to take the next step with you. I will say a couple things about my experience of reading Ken’s book shortly, but that action step needs to incite action.
OK so there you have 3 little paragraphs, the value of which is several hundred dollars to you, because just employing these 3 strategies in your nonfiction book will make it a page-turner (assuming that your content is top rate, of course!).
Now I have to tell you what a fabulous storyteller Ken McArthur is. His tales drew me right into his material and made it so much more meaningful than bald facts would have been. Ken has done a lot of writing and it shows.
His last chapter made me so excited to take that next step! I can’t share what that step is, but you will probably want to go do the thing he asks of you at the end too.
What a great book!
He called it his first draft, and I told him live on the call that saying this was a first draft would be like a chef calling a gourmet meal “jsut a little something.” His editor ought to be proud of him and pleased that he is saving the editor a great deal of work by turning in a well organized, clean manuscript.
If you have already joined in the fun at Books Mean Credibility, then you’ll be able to download the call. If you haven’t joined yet - come on in! For a buck you can stay for a week, then there is only a small monthly tuition.
What you get:
a $700 value Basic Authoring for Business Profits 3-class at NO COST
* Access to the live coaching calls where Glenn Dietzel and the team at Awakened mentor Ken (and other authors in future) to create their book with a business in the “back end”
* special downloads and educational materials.
If you have ever considered authoring your own book, you need to be on these calls. You can follow along and do exactly what we tell Ken to do–and write YOUR book.
