OK this is the latest on the competition.

When there’s voting involved, it’s a popularity contest.  No guarantees that the most talented person moves along.  Think of all the voting shows.  I watched a rapper who couldn’t dance move ahead week after week in that dancing competition show rather than more talented people.

That’s how it is.

Popularity in the vote does not determine your success in life.  Purpose, expectancy, and actions do.

Unfortunately, a non-Cubs fan who has only been to Wrigley Field once won Monday’s vote.

Dad saw this on the Cubs.com site:

Thousands have registered and many have performed, but now it is time for the most loyal fans in the world to help select the 10 finalists!  Congratulations to the winner from Monday, August 6:#11958 - Eric Wollam (Bradford, TN)

This is his bio from the site:
Eric W. From Bradford, TN - When I was a kid, my grandfather who was raised in Chicago, told me that my Reds cap would not do if I was a Wollam. He said what is your last name son? I said Wollam, just like your’s. He said then give the Reds cap and he reached behind his chair and pitched me a Cubs cap. I’ve been a HUGE Cubs fan ever since. I’m still a Cub fan and so are my three children. I’ve been to Wrigley once. It was a moving experience. To sing there would be Unbelievable.

Well, boo-hiss!

But this is the REST of the story, as Paul Harvey would say.

People who don’t even know Ron Del Boccio or me voted for him - and they came from all over the USA, Canada, Australia and Great Britain.

I asked some colleagues and friends to vote, and a few people not only VOTED, but they sent the announcement along to their list - to people who are interested in their services and products - and got THEM to vote.

That’s what we call going VIRAL.  People spread the word and people got caught up in the STORY of a man going after a dream.

Thank you so much to everyone who voted for Ron Del Boccio.  Thank you to all who have called or written asking about the competition.  Yes, I got calls from people all over the country asking about the vote.

OK so unfortunately a non-cubs fan moves along to the next level.  So maybe Eric already had a fan-base.

But here’s the thing…I have such a strong vision of my Dad singing at Wrigley Field and I’m in the stands on that day too.  I KNOW he will sing at Wrigley - whether it’s the Star Spangled Banner or Take Me Out to the Ball Game.”

I’m not the only one.  Several people have such a strong feeling - including, of course, my Dad - that I KNOW it will happen.

Sometimes your dream doesn’t happen the way you had hoped, expected, or planned…but that’s no reason to give up.

Dad, I know you’ll be getting the call to sing at Wrigley Field during a Cubs game.  And I know I’ll be there too!

I love you, Dad, and I’m glad you went for something you wanted, even though you didn’t get it.

PS - that’s how you pick yourself up and keep believing despite the evidence.
